I scanned the recipe ingredients and immediately noticed that these cookies were a bit different than I was used to making. First, it calls for vegetable oil instead of butter. Secondly, it uses melted unsweetened chocolate instead of cocoa powder. Lastly, you MUST chill the dough.
I spoke with Mister's Mom (MM) today and she told me she has been making these cookies for 30 years. It was a recipe from her friend. It even won a blue ribbon at a county (or state...I forget) fair in Montana. After tasting these you will see why! They are delicious. She also says that they freeze (after cooking) beautifully.
Let get to the recipe.
Chocolate Crinkles
Ingredients:
1/2 cup vegetable oil
4 squares unsweetened melted chocolate (4 oz.)
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 1/4 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 Cup Powdered sugar (not pictured because, well, I get distracted)
Melt the chocolate. If you chop the chocolate it will melt faster. I didn't feel like dirtying up a knife and the cutting board. I also used the microwave, again to lazy to set up a double broiler.
Stir in the Sugar. And the Oil
Mix it well.
Put it all into your favorite mixer.
Blend in the eggs.

Using a medium ice cream scoop roll dough into balls.

Roll into balls. First it looks like moose poop.
Then roll in powdered Sugar. Now it looks like snow man poop.Place on cookie sheet lined with parchment.
Place in over at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
Look how cool they look!
Pick out the prettiest ones and put them out for Santa and a glass of milk!
Merry Christmas!
